Wastewater Treatment: Other Applications

This UF pretreatment system, with 138 of the TARGA®-10 cartridges, was commissioned  in July 2005 at the Datong power plant in Shanxi Provence, China.  It treats cooling tower blowdown to make feedwater to an RO system that supplies boiler make-up. Cooling Tower Blowdown Treatment Cooling towers are more efficient when they run with clean water. Using membrane technology lengthens the time between blowdowns and makes even blowdown water safe for disposal.

Permeate,ozonated permeate and oncentrate from UF system at a commercial laundry. Industrial and Commercial Laundry Wastewater Laundry wastewater contains oil, grease, and fibers—difficult for even most membrane technology to remove. Koch membrane systems have been designed, however, that produce a consistent quality effluent and allow reuse of up to 60% of the water—reducing the cost of water and the cost of heating it. In the Netherlands, EcoPark de Wierdé has been using submerged hollow fiber membranes to treat leachate from a landfill that accepts household and industrial wastes for five years.

Landfill Leachate Treatment
Solids and dissolved organics and inorganics in landfill leachate pose hazards for local water supplies. The use of membranes removes these contaminants so only pure water enters the ground water system.

Mop and Floor Cleaning Wastewater
Membrane separation of mop and floor cleaning wastewater creates water pure enough for reuse and allows reuse of the soap solution.

Pressure Washing Effluent
Pressure washing can result in a broad array of contaminants in the wastewater. Membrane technology can be optimized to remove oils and grease, solids, salts, and heavy metals from the water.





Scrubber Blowdown Treatment
Scrubbers take toxins out of industrial and mining exhausts, often using water. Filtering that water through a membrane concentrates the toxics for reduced disposal costs and allows reuse of the scrubber water.

Tank and Reactor Cleaning Water
Membrane technology, in combination with other technologies, can be optimized for the removal of heavy metals and the production of water suitable for discharge or reuse.
